The only skills I interview on today is code reading and architecture I pull up code and ask them to walk me through it with no AI. Or I give them a problem and say design a system. No code.
They can either understand it or they can't. They can either think in architectural terms or they can't. If they can't they won't work for us.
Vibe coding has no place in our company. Architecture and reviewing code written by AI to ensure it meets architectural spec is the future of engineering and I literally will not hire anyone who can't write and read code without AI.
AI rocks for good engineers. It really makes them more productive and helps produce cleaner code. NO QUESTION.
Newbies using AI create crap code that becomes more and more unstustaible as they add more and more features they do not understand. Larger projects of course magnify this more.
