That's perfectly reasonable. That's actually professional. There is a difference between a donation and a payment. Users either accept that or they don't.

I just think models like this generally result in worse UX. It's my opinion. I don't have to support it.

What pisses me off is when a developer or organization takes money under the claim to support user-focused software development without actually caring what users think or want. It's a warped and dishonest relationship. It's totally fine if everyone is up front about the terms. Mozilla, for example, would take money for software development and then just spend it on bullshit that has nothing to do with software. That sort of shit is ridiculous and I won't support it. Fuck their expression.
