Wheaton IL was a station on the Underground Railroad, moving slaves north into Canada. Several large clusters of Black families formed, literally - "south of the tracks". They've been there since the Civil War.
When Bronzeville, the Black ghetto, was desegregated, anyone with money skipped over the dreaded Cicero, a bastion of racist hatred
