The thing about coming out as transgender, and it might even be some of your most immediately supportive persons, is that so many of them say something like:

“I have no problem with the choices you make for your life, you are free to do whatever you wish, who am I to judge.”

Like, the only part of this even remotely resembling a choice is *not coming out sooner.*

None of us *chose* to be transgender. But many of us “chose” a life of shame and so much hurt because the thought of telling the world, for me at least, was one of the most frightening and painful things my brain has ever held onto.

And the funny thing about it is that coming out didn’t work like that. Once I started it became incrementally less frightening, and I felt infinitely better about who I am, and eventually finally learned self love.

Coming out wasn’t a choice, it was a live or die necessity, and I know most of you in this position already know this.

(I assume it works the same for coming out as any kind of queer to some degree or another, but I have no experience)
