It's more complicates than that: Macron WANTED the far rights to win when he dissolved the national assembly. He just couldn't act upon his desire when "the left" united and he was forced to ask his candidates who came third to desist becausebhe couldn't officially align with the far right when there suddenly was a credible chance they would lose. And many of his candidates DIDN't desist anyway.
Also there is a bunch of neoliberals and reactionaries the "left" union we had to do. We'll have to wait and see who he nominates as prime minister now.
The real twisted, devilish thing for him to do now would be to pick Glucksman.
