Happy to announce that I've written the liner notes essay for the new Grateful Dead 19-CD box set, "Friend of the Devils: April 1978," which you can preorder from RHINO now. Made from Betty Cantor-Jackson's source tapes, it captures the band in the weeks that "Drums" and "Space," aka the Rhythm Devils, became a permanent feature of the second set, and includes one of the best shows the Dead ever played, at Duke University.
