The progression I've seen over and over again in my seven or eight years on the fediverse is people showing up and expressing frustration because the whole world isn't here, and even the parts of it that are here aren't as accessible as they were on other services, and finding people isn't intuitive, and you can't see all of the posts that you think you should be able to see. And eventually, it starts to click for the ones who stick with it, and you see them say things like, "yeah, not everyone I'd like to follow is here, but I don't feel as anxious online," or "a lot of things don't work properly, but I really appreciate the weird little subcultures I've plugged into here."

That's what we should be cultivating. There are a lot of things that need fixing and development on the fediverse, but the goal should be to get people safely to that point with less friction, not getting everyone on the planet into the same room together.
