Everyone is arguing about legacy admissions and the unfair playing field for minorities after the Supreme Court ruled against affirmative action. The truth is none of this matters because college has become an overpriced credential mill where students live like aristocrats and get a country club experience, all while racking up tens of thousands of dollars in debt.
Students are not the consumers but rather the product that universities offer to their various governmental and private sponsors. After the 4 year party they're left with no real world skills and a mountain of debt that will burden them for most if not the rest of their lives.
In a few decades, university will be completely obsoleted compared to its current credentials mill state. Not only are the costs unsustainable, but anyone will be able to spin up a 1 person virtual company using technology and AI tools to produce a product or service from anywhere in the world. Information is ubiquitous now. You don't need to pay $50k+ per year to learn in a classroom when you can learn it from AI tutor or various online classes at any time on a moment's notice.
