in 2004, i read a book titled designing the green economy by brian milani. it was a critical look at how our economy functions and how it could be retooled according to ecological principles. one detail that stuck with me was the assertion that the great depression was a crisis of over abundance. there was tons of crap being produced but not enough people to buy it.
