Actually... the article refers to a usage pattern for "those suffering from sudden or degenerative speech conditions." Having gone through a similar ordeal lately, I am not sure how such an application would have helped me. It sounds like a technology that is not necessarily need, done "just because we can".
(Of course, there are plenty of dangerous applications out there: we will get totally realistic spams or fake news...)
