Well, the question Vance posed to him was not about prior support, it was about the support he was receiving from the new administration considering his shit attitude. So he may have thanked the prior administration because they gave him whatever whenever but he apparently failed to establish a relationship with the new administration considering he was in the US in October campaigning for the opposition.
