I was in college at Georgia Tech and had a G4 Mac Mini serving my WordPress blog from my dorm. I used the K2 theme and learned basic PHP and CSS modifying it.

I wrote an article about configuring a BitTorrent client which got picked up by LifeHacker and Digg.. and I kept writing various articles, guides, and reviews over the years.

Eventually the Mac Mini got too much traffic and the hard drive died, so I moved to a MediaTemple shared server. (mt) was the absolute coolest company at the time. All the cool blogs were hosted there.
