#WritersCoffeeClub 25. World Penguin Day! How have ‘the classics’ influenced your work?
Our family book shelves held some classics packaged for the aspirational middle class, and when I was 9 we moved to a small town whose public library was founded in the 1880s or 90s and never had its shelves weeded... I read a LOT of classics. Homer when I was 8, Defoe (unabridged), Dickens. Shakespeare beginning when I was 10 or 11. Lots of 19th century best sellers (Scott, Dumas,Alcott, etc.) It's my world.
