The amazing thing about trees is how they impact the environment on very small scales.
Even in the absence of true precipitation, trees grab atmospheric water vapor and channel it down along their branches and trunk, feeding an entire world of epiphytic plants fungi mosses lichens, down to the ground where more plants fungi mosses lichens thrive, protecting the trees roots and soils.
It’s called tree drip. The sound as beautiful as water babbling in a stream.
In the absence of a tree, or a stand of trees, there is no capture. The soil is exposed. It washes away.
It takes a lot of effort to re-forest denuded land.
This I know from experience.
