So given the choice between doing the right thing, and helping fund the reversal of the dire situation #ThamesWater has got itself & its customer into, or taking a (in aggregate) £5bn (estimated) loss on the investment, it seems TW's shareholders are prepared to walk away.
If you wanted a measure of how much they've already managed to drain (no pun intended) out of the business this would be it; you can only afford that sort of capital loss if the asset has been earning well for years!
