I used to really like Alternate History because it tickles that autism spot about thinking about historical events in a counterfactual manner. The problem is after you are no longer new to it, the genre becomes extremely gay because every mainstream Alternate History thing has the Whig view of history as its assumption so it's just thinking of novel alternate paths to the globohomo gayplex, unless it's a dystopia like the Draka series which is intentionally structured as a morality play of "le evil Chuds" doing everything in the most sadistic way possible because that's what happens when democracy dies in darkness.
