Hmmm. I just saw a picture of a leaf that reminded me of sassafras trees that grow in the Appalachians.
I miss sassafras. It grows wild, in great abundance, in the mid-Atlantic region of the Appalachian Mountains. You can pull up young plants, strip the bark off the roots and a fragrant smell reminiscent of root beer issues forth.
You can chew on the roots and they taste like root beer as well, although I learned later in life that they might be mildly carcinogenic, LOL.
