Who remembers the UK's "porn licence" plan (from not that long ago)?
You'd go into a shop and say that you wanted to buy a "porn licence".
The shopkeeper would verify your age if you looked under [21/25/whatever], and see you a scratch card.
You could use that card as a way of demonstrating that you were over 18. (Leaving aside the obvious resale market.)
Oddly enough, that didn't catch on.
