The obvious flaw with bringing industry home using tariffs is that capital laughs at borders.
Imagine pitching a VC: ‘nvest a few billion for a factory in the US that'll take a few years to spin up and the tariffs may disappear in a couple of months? You in?’ They’ll flee to Mexico, Vietnam, anywhere with cheaper labor and stable rules. Capitalists aren’t patriots, they’re profit vultures. Without shackling capital (which ‘free market’ gods forbid), this plan is DOA.
