Rhetorically, wouldn't time of use power plans be free market. And fixed price power plans be socialist?

In NZ we have options for fixed price plans and time of use plans (spot price).

Fixed price providers buy hedges on the power market ahead of time, 1 - 12 months.

Generally spot price is super cheap, 1/2 the hedged price. But if there is a power shortage, spot prices can go to $6000 per kWh. They will text you in advance to turn off your house and get a hotel room.
