I have an Ergodox-EZ that I've loved for several years. My layout is here: https://configure.zsa.io/ergodox-ez/layouts/6awpq/latest/0 and it's been super convenient.
Today I found that on Pop OS (not reproduced on mac) if I press Ctrl+a I get a å (after some text appears). Inspecting with xev I see that it actually sent `Ctrl+Shift+U e 5 Return` as individual keystrokes, which makes sense for å. Same for Ctrl+e = `Ctrl+Shift+U b 4 Return` = ´ etc...
