You could continue to see bitcoin as only value reserve against fiat, however its real power it is give freedom against governments manipulation of money, the mother of all the curses. To allow that, it should be used like money and so lightining and cashu are the only way .. however privacy and anonymity would be the basic for that too (they will fight to not loose their power) ..
if this will not be, bitcoin will be like a stamps collection .. but stamps are more pretty .. so it will fail together with its value .. remember bitcoin it is only your occasion to save the world .. but you have to take it ..
