Western Governor's University has self-paced programs set up in a format where the terms are 6 months long, you can do as many courses as you want (one at a time) during the term beyond the required minimum number of credits, and the classes are pass/fail based on a final test, project, or both. A term costs about $4000.

So, if you already have a bunch of experience and knowledge, you can breeze through a lot of the courses in short order. You don't have to do a bunch of smaller projects or homework or whatever, you can start a course and jump right to the final. If you pass, great, you're done with the course. If you fail, you might get stuck in a revision/retake loop that drags on for weeks so it's better to be sure you're ready before trying it.

Since it sounds too good to be true I'll also say it is a real, regionally-accredited school and the tests/projects aren't a joke. It's *possible* to get through the program in less than a year, but it's rare, and the people who do usually transferred in a decent amount of credit and/or had significant experience in the field.

It's also a lot more sink or swim than a typical college. Either you're self-motivated and can learn mostly on your own, and complete tests and projects without strict deadlines, or you just won't get anything done and will be dropped for lack of progress.

Anyway I know some people doing IT degrees there and I've thought about doing it myself just to get the piece of paper. But it seems like most people have never heard of this option even though it's been around for awhile.
