There are also several contemporary examples of deception being used as a tool in warfare. For example, ISIS has reportedly used online deception tactics with the use of fake accounts in an effort to lure in potential recruits. In Syria, the Russian government has also been accused of using disinformation tactics to discredit the Syrian rebels. Russia has also been known to use “cyber troops” to spread false information and manipulate public opinion.
