I'd say they're load-bearing, in that they hold up the spirits of everyone in the lab! ;^) In seriousness, though, they're mostly there just to show any guests who look through the prep lab window where the eyes would have been in this animal's skull! Without the googly eyes, the skull really doesn't look like much from the guest's side!
