No one believes the entirety of their religion, no one follows every bit of their holy text. All religion is a series of attempts to find some sort of sum total of meaning derived by weighing different teachings differently, deciding which teachings don't matter and which do, and interpreting some sort of greater significance to the parts emphasized. No religion has a body of teachings so small and so closely held that there is a singular voice, singular message, and uncomplicated non-contradicting set of teachings.
