It’s important to remember when we think about this, that it doesn’t mean that nothing we do matters. To the contrary, who you teach your kids to be, and thus who your dependents are, will have thousands of times the impact you had and possibly for a near eternity moving forward. They won’t remember you, but the values and understanding you gave the next generation will remain and lead to a positive feedback loop that is quite possibly, limitless.
So accept that you will be forgotten. It is a necessary part of the continuation and flourishing of life. And honestly who gives a shit if someone 100 years from now is still spreading rumors about us? They don’t and can’t ever know who we were anyway. But our descendants will still be here. They will still be told stories and lessons that you taught your kids. Whether they have any idea of it or not.
Your kids are the means by which you will live forever. They carry just enough that matters, and leave all the arbitrary specifics behind.
• Don’t live the life someone else wants you to live, live the one you want.
• What we do matters, leave behind a value and love of life and the meaning of your existence may never have a conclusion. You have no idea how great the butterfly effect of your actions and what you teach your kids could really be.
"In 100 years, we will all be buried with our family and friends. Strangers will live in our homes that we worked so hard to build and someone else will own everything we have today.
Our descendants will hardly know who we are nor will they remember us. How many of us know who is our grandfathers father was?
After we die we will be remembered for few more years and then we're just a potrait on someone wall.
And a few decades later our history, photos and deeds disappear into history oblivion.
We won't even be memories.
Enjoy your life.”
