Just realized a very strange symmetry...
Fans of Taylor Swift consider an attack on her to be an attack on them
Fans of Donald Trump consider an attack on him to be an attack on them.
I think the difference is that Swift is an authentic person and artist, who fans identify with because of her honesty, courage, message, and because the relationship goes both ways.
...while on the other hand Trump is a simply a con artist, he has contempt for and will lie to his supporters for any reason, and the relationship certainly does not go both ways.
