the usb 3 GbE dongles work well enough, but they will crap out under extreme load durations. I used to have issues with transcoding from files on NAS to files on NAS via my machine with a USB3 GbE.
Bought 3 new ones and just swap them out when they start acting up.
I don't know that there's much difference between brands, they're all roughly the same shape, so to test don't go buying the whizbang $50 one
