My partner had an old male chihuahua that turned into an absolute bastard towards everyone after her dad, who he was closest with, died except for her. She warned me about him and after the initial new person barking he came over, sniffed me, and plopped down in my lap.
Her female chihuahua was a harder nut to crack thanks to her mom abusing the dog when she would try to stop her from hitting my partner. Her mother hated that dog because she was so fiercely protective over my partner and would just go out of her way to hurt her and constantly screamed at her. After a couple of weeks though she was my new best friend and when something happened that scared her she made a B line straight for me.
