I was in Riccarton Bush on Thursday. It's a miraculous patch of 600-year old forest in the middle of Ōtautahi-Christchurch, NZ (a city only 174-years old).

Through the first half of the 1900s the understorey was mown to keep it open (!). It's only since the 1970s that attitudes changed and it's been allowed to recover back into a real forest.

Each time I'm there I like to photograph the first track intersection inside the bush that shows it healing.
