I played most games but Sword and Shield were so damn bad in terms of plot, overall design and difficulty that i vowed to never touch a new pokemon game. Just for reference, i did a blinz bug type only nuzlocke and the only trainer that gave me trouble was the Champion.
And you're right on him being an antihero since the big bad was lily's mom pretty much. But of someone got into Pokemon i would tell them to not bother past gens 3-4
