Southern european economies had large, generational long, private savings and no interests in "going global".
So they were to be broken and forced into compliance.
Euro was designed to attack that and make room for super-large megacorp.
No real societal project ever starts from the currency, unless is a wealth grab.
The greeks were attacked first because of being a smaller country, where the risk could be cordoned eventually it went very bad.
In certain circles they expected the greek population to rise and overthrow the eurogoons.
The IMF / ECB gang gamed it for about a decade before going for the kill.
