
Abu Dhabi (UAE Federation) launched the second edition of the UAE Wrestling Championship, which will continue until this evening, at 'Mubadala Arena' in Abu Dhabi, with around 400 players from 13 clubs and academies from inside and outside the country participating. The championship is part of the largest sports calendar of its kind launched by the UAE Wrestling Federation as part of its strategic plan to promote and develop the sport. The opening ceremony began with the national anthem, followed by a film about wrestling, before the final matches started. The ceremony was attended by HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, President of the UAE Wrestling Federation, Sheikh Hamdan bin Saif bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Secretary-General of the Federation, Dr. Ziad Saleh Al Rashdi, member of the Federation's Board of Directors, Sultan Al Ketbi, Executive Director, and Engineer Mohammed Al Awamleh, President of the Jordanian Wrestling Federation. The first day featured matches for the under-15 and under-10 age groups, while today's matches will feature the under-17 age group, with the overall championship standings to be announced after the results of the under-15 and under-17 age groups are announced, and the winning team will receive the cup designed especially for this championship. The under-10 age group is considered a developmental category to encourage young players to learn the skills of the game and participate in the championship atmosphere. On a related note, the UAE Wrestling Federation signed a memorandum of understanding with the Jordanian Wrestling Federation to enhance joint efforts to develop the sport at various administrative, technical, and refereeing levels. The memorandum was signed by Sultan Al Ketbi, Executive Director and member of the Federation's Board of Directors, and Engineer Mohammed Al Awamleh, President of the Jordanian Wrestling Federation, in the presence of Ganem Al Hajri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Sports, and Dr. Ziad Saleh Al Rashdi, member of the Federation's Board of Directors. Commenting on the signing of the memorandum, Engineer Mohammed Al Awamleh emphasized the importance of this step in emphasizing the framework of joint cooperation and permanent relations between the UAE and Jordan, particularly in the sport of wrestling, saying: 'This memorandum is based on key points for working on developing wrestling, administratively, technically, and refereeing, and we will work in the coming period to establish joint camps and events.' Al Awamleh praised the UAE's efforts to develop wrestling, saying: 'We expect a bright future for wrestling in the UAE, and we will see more promising talents, through the organization of this type of championships, such as the UAE Wrestling Championship, which provides opportunities for young players to showcase their skills.'
