I think the internet is a better analogy. Bitcoin is a network, that's what most no-coiners struggle to understand, so comparing it to an OS would not help.
It's unlikely at this point but a better open source OS could be built and replace Linux as the most popular open source UX, but no one will create a new internet, it will just be improved, just like bitcoin. Their network effects are so strong that it makes them irreplaceable.
