Well, i had both: days where I am focused af working on one thing. And days were I distract myself just the whole time and don’t get anything done.
Comparing these days I noticed a few things:
1. How I start the day. When I do my morning routine (which includes cold showering and meditation), I can be super focused. Otherwise when I just chill in my bed in the morning watching some YouTube videos and then start my day, I am not.
2. Where I have my phone. When it is right there on the table, I grab it almost automatically all the time. Just a bad habit. When I place it in another room - or even behind my laptop where I cannot see it - I just don’t use it. It makes a lot of difference for me!
3. How much stress I make myself. On days where I stress myself, because I need to do something what I really have to finish that day, then I am less productive ironically. When I get myself to take it easy and forget about the deadline and be in the flow, it just works better. And because I am not that productive when I am stressed, I am even more stressed because I am unproductive. Its a death spiral.
