About ten years ago, a friend was telling me that a recruiter she knows had applicants showing up with their mothers who would then try to negotiate their kids' salaries and tell them when they would be off on family vacations. These were the same cohort of moms that we were seeing in school trying to micromanage the classrooms to suit their kids' "needs". Doesn't make for effective adulting later in life.

Now, admittedly, when I was buying my first car in my early twenties, I did bring my dad with me when looking at cars because he was a mechanic and could translate all the specs for me and brought my mom to the bank to negotiate the car loan because she knew the ins and outs of that. But neither of them made the decisions for me, they just helped me understand what I was getting in to.
