The more I read about this, the stranger it seems.
Apparently the DEA sets (allegedly) secret annual production quotas for the manufacturers.
And as part of the "2021 nationwide settlement" for all "opioids litigation brought by states and local political subdivisions", "secret limits" were placed on all drug distributors and dispensaries for not just opioids, but other drugs like adderall and xanax.
A lot of the articles just blame the "covid supply-chain crisis"...
