Heh.
There's a certain cadre in the Home-Barista membership rolls that just frustrate the crap out of me.
I posted an initial impressions (not a review, at all) of the Olympia Mina. It garnered a lot of discussion on HB. Several accused me of shilling for Olympia because I didn't 100% follow their own (uninformed, because they haven't used the product) opinions on the Mina. Others felt I romanticized the espresso making process too much.
That's the HB way: if a "review" doesn't match the poster's own opinions -- perceived on ether, or real based on using a product -- they must be shillin'.
Sidenote: I don't have a home-barista account. Never have. There's a reason.
Dan Kehn, the owner of HB, was a CoffeeGeek forums moderator and one day told me privately he wanted to start a new forum exclusively for espresso discussions (CoffeeGeek covered ALL coffee in our forums). I encouraged him to do so, and offered any and all advice I could.
I also told him from the get-go, "I won't register in your forums because I don't want to cause any conflict or confusion with this new resource you're setting up - it's all yours, and I also want to avoid any kind of "he-said, he-said" between the two forums if I ended up having an account on both platforms".
So yup, never did register for HB.
And I won't because there's a zero sum gain involved if I do it today.
