"content": "The 18 painted waistcoat buttons of Toussaint Louverture (1743-1803) featuring scenes by Agostino Brunias (1730-1896).\n\nI just found out there was an important lecture by Dr. Anne Lafont on this topic in Dec. 2022 at Newcomb/Tulane. I'm looking for more info or a transcript. The story of these artifacts covers so much all at once: history, art, race, \u0026 revolution. Here's a lightweight highly romanticized overview, but oddly without any photos of the buttons:\nhttps://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/a-mystery-in-miniature-175686099/\n\n#painting\nhttps://files.mastodon.green/media_attachments/files/112/541/200/917/693/705/original/b7c0ebdaaa161134.jpg\nhttps://files.mastodon.green/media_attachments/files/112/541/201/017/793/461/original/d14f7db24406cc57.jpg\nhttps://files.mastodon.green/media_attachments/files/112/541/201/194/173/146/original/79ec3bf445e3b39a.jpg\n",
