They probably are, but over here they’re very much on the “much loved but endangered” list (thank you badgers), so a lot of people try to look out for them and give them mid-range dog food to try to fatten them up.

I still remember that time Husband and I went to one of your mammal-free reserves and saw not a sign of life until we were back in the car park and saw half a dozen enormous purple pigeon-pheasant things, which we later found was about a third of the global population of whatever it was. Have at it getting rid of mammals there, but we love our hedgies and they’re evolved to be here.
