The Sharjah Publishers Conference concluded its 14th edition yesterday (Tuesday), organized by the Sharjah Book Authority, ahead of the 43rd edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair. The conference saw the signing of 2,993 publishing rights deals, including translation and distribution rights, for participating publishers from around the world. The three-day event brought together 1,146 publishers and literary agents from 108 Arab and international countries, with the second and third days featuring special sessions for discussing publishing rights deals. This provided participants with an opportunity to strengthen international cooperation and expand their networks in the global publishing market, contributing to the dissemination of books to a wide audience worldwide. The conference, which was supported by "Du" as an official partner, organized several discussion sessions that tackled the latest developments and growth prospects in the publishing sector, in addition to the presentation of the "Sharjah Publishing Rights Award" and the "She's Next" award, which is presented by the "Publish Here" initiative in collaboration with Visa. In his comments on the conference's conclusion, Mansour Al-Hassani, the general coordinator of the professional conferences at the Sharjah International Book Fair, emphasized the importance of the "Publishers' Conference" in highlighting the results of cooperation in the publishing industry, through professional discussions, practical experiences, and contracts that benefit all stakeholders in the industry, including readers. He said: "The conference was successful in bringing together publishers, literary agents, and key figures from around the world, creating an environment that fosters innovation and supports the building of strategic partnerships, and enriching publishers' knowledge of the latest developments and best practices that must be followed to develop their work, achieving our goals of linking global markets in the publishing industry and promoting sustainable growth in the sector.
