Americans are so bad at understanding politics in Latin America. left, right, center, it almost doesn't matter, almost everyone catastrophically misunderstands or ignores what is going on, basically because Americans have a really, really difficult time seeing someone who speaks Spanish (or English with an accent) as fully human, existing autonomously and independent from the American political gaze.
