I've been told more than once to leave the country by folks with literally nothing to their name. Yes, I have a passport and am prepared for that eventuality, but I'm not planning to leave unless the gestapo comes for me.
Asylum is ugly. It's de-humanizing. Even in countries with the best human rights. It's stressful, and many people don't even make it.
I'm 43. I've spent decades building and investing in my property here. Getting up and leaving is not a cakewalk. I'm too old and weak in my health to start over. This isn't a decision to take so lightly.
So if your answer to the US Nazi problem is to leave, consider where you're coming from when you give advice to others. If you're young, healthy, and can just flee, then go for it. /r #asylum #immigration #trans
