This from my experience with SSDs:
1. When they fail, they fail good and solid. In other words you're basically either stuck, or as one other person on Mastodon did, you identify which chip failed by temperature test and stick a big cooler on it and try and salvage what you can. I have never had one fail in read-only mode. All of them failed into completely unusable mode. I was able to RMA one of them, the other, went to FILE #13.
2. The optimizations mentioned I have all of them enabled but my drive is now on 96% health in 2 years. I am not waiting for it to fail, I am going to replace it with NVme as soon as possible.
