Arguments about the different generations tend to be dumb to begin with, but I ALWAYS have to roll my eyes at the ever-present, nigh obligatory "everyone forgets about gen-x" comment. Boo-hoo, you got left out of a pointless culture war on the internet.
Gen-x's stereotype was making it seem like they didn't care about anything, so I don't know what these generationally identified types were expecting would happen.
