Nut Recall as Warning Issued to Customers
==========

Some Planters nut products are being recalled over concerns they may have been contaminated with listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products are limited to 4 oz. packages of PLANTERS® Honey Roasted Peanuts and 8.75 oz. cans of PLANTERS® Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts. The products were shipped to distribution warehouses in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina, as well as Dollar Tree distribution warehouses in South Carolina and Georgia. The roasted peanuts have a universal product code of '2900002097,' while the lightly salted mixed nuts have a code of '2900001621.' The company has not received any reports of illness from consuming these products. Customers can either discard the affected products or return them to the store for an exchange or full refund. Hormel Foods Sales, the parent company of Planters, is conducting a full investigation to determine the source of the contamination. Listeria monocytogenes can cause severe illness, especially in pregnant women, newborns, adults over 65 years old, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of listeria infection include fever, flu-like symptoms, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, seizures, and in severe cases, miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or life-threatening infection in newborns. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that people at higher risk avoid certain foods that may be more likely to cause listeria infection. The recall does not affect other Planters products. The article was published by Newsweek on May 5, 2024.
