Honestly I’d need numbers to believe that a social that includes photos and videos can become sustainable thanks to premium users and selfhosters without relying on anything else
Just the other day there was a discussion on hackernews about YouTube maybe not being on net positive
A bit like the same reasons I don’t believe in ATProto going to win the microblogging race, it’s too costly to run a node
If there was the possibility to run a node text only or with a very low limit on memory per message (to achieve the same result) + onion routing (Evgeny in the past already told me it was in the plans) to reach the identity-less box, well, that would change a lot :)
Hosting “my people” stuff is a thing, hosting complete strangers media that can also be stuff I’d very much not support mmmmh
