Beirut (The Union) and more than 100 Lebanese MPs sent an urgent appeal yesterday to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to protect historical sites from Israeli airstrikes, especially in southern and eastern Lebanon. The MPs, who signed a letter addressed to UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, stated: 'We urge and draw your attention to the urgent need to protect historical sites in Lebanon, especially in Baalbek, Tyre, and other important landmarks that are facing a significant threat due to the escalation of atrocities, with Israel targeting historical sites, including Baalbek Castle.' Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati emphasized the need for all Lebanese leaders to cooperate to face the consequences of the war. This was during his meeting with Lebanese Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, where he reviewed the current developments, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's office. Mikati said during the meeting that 'the current stage requires the cooperation of all Lebanese leaders and their unity to face the consequences of the Israeli aggression on Lebanon and protect the Lebanese from the evil and sedition that the Israeli enemy is seeking.'
