This was dumb in 2020 and it's even more dumb now that we're in the middle of an influenza season

pneumonia and influenza are two categories of things - pneumonia is a symptom, caused by an infection, influenza is a virus that can cause symptoms.

The IHR'05 protocols were invoked in 2020 which were specifically designed to deal with influenza. They worked on influenza. They did not work on covid. Because covid is more contagious than influenza.

There were surveillance systems that were operant in 2020 and 2021 that tracked influenza and covid. Covid is not some kind of handwaving of making the flu disappear -- it is a different pathogen with different impacts on the body, some of which are permanent or long-term.
